Modern Holiday Decor

As someone who truly loves and enjoys the holiday season, I can hardly contain myself when it comes to festive decor and though the holidays are rooted in the traditions of the past, there's nothing wrong with a modern spin...

Bold Color From Designer Brett Beldock

Photobucket

In the recent interview from Decorati, designer Brett Beldock gives us some insight into her design style and how it has changed in the last 10 years.  The images of her work shared in this interview range from monochromatic and sophisticated to bold and surprising. It's the bold and surprising that really peaked my interest as she floods rooms with color or adds vibrant pops to modern spaces.

Modern House Tour- Lake Geneva WI

Ittel Home

The modern home built in 2006 by Vetter Denk, a Milwaukee based architectural firm,  for the Ittel family features an open plan aesthetic. The north facing homes living room walls are compromised of large windows at floor level and a clerestory above to allow the suns rays to warm the home in the winter months. The space strikes a certain harmony between the modern interior and rustic outdoors. There's a connection between the two that is ideal when I imagine my own dream home. I think it's the fusion of modern day comforts and the need to stay in tune with nature that attract me to homes like this.

Rustic Round Up

The fall season always makes me think of cold days wrapped up next to a fireplace sipping on some hot coco. I feel the need for some rustic surroundings!

Inside Model Coco Rocha's Manhattan Apartment

Model Coco Rocha and her husband, artist James Conran, fill their two bedroom apartment with vintage pieces, books, random finds, and her collections from all over the world. Each item in their home holds some history and there's not an empty corner in the place! Check out Vogue for more info and pics.

A Glass House...

or should I say "glass penthouse"? In the October issue of Architectural Digest I was inspired by some impressive images of a modern penthouse which seems to be floating in the upper levels of the atmosphere in Soho. The 3,600 square foot duplex is wrapped in a modern steel and glass structure allowing for the sun to cast shadows into the design by interior architecture and design firm Shelton, Mindel & Associates. And when I say "wrapped" I mean it quite literally. French architect Jean Nouvel, who designed the building, designed the top floors and penthouse to include walls and ceilings compromised of steel louvers and glass. Talk about being exposed! Think you could live in a space like this?

Bamboo Accents

As designers that prefer a more eclectic aesthetic, we find that a bamboo piece of some sort can always find it's way into a design. There's an exotic quality about bamboo that we just can't get enough of.

From Fashion Trend to Home Decor

Adding personal style to your home is always important and an easy way to do that is to look in your closet. What we wear reflects who we are and it's easy to translate your own fashion style to home decor. Here's some of the latest fall fashion trends translated for the home.

Organizing Jewelry

Lately my jewelry seems to have taken on a life of its own. I'm finding that there are pieces that I have completely forgotten I own due to the fact that are buried in my heaping pile of unorganized jewelry. In light of this situation I've taken to the web for some ideas and inspiration to help alleviate the mess.

jewelry organization
Love this idea from Martha Stewart..she suggests using the mix and match pieces of china that you have to store jewelry in a drawer. You can organize by color, style or type and have it all in bird's-eye view. Don't forget to line the drawer with felt so the china doesn't slide around.

jewelry organization
Another great idea from Martha is to use a shadow box to hang jewelry pieces. This is a great way to not only store and organize but display your favorite pieces. You can create your own work of art. Just add pins and hooks to the back of a shadow box and you're set. For a personal touch, wallpaper the back of the shadow box.

jewelry organization
Here's a solution from Real Simple that is similar to the shadow box in that it allows you to display your favorite pieces. Wrap a piece of foam core in fabric and frame it or you can use a cork board. Add pins to customize for hanging and you're done. Love the idea of a bust to hang necklaces on too.

jewelry organization
A simple and fool proof option are drawer organizing inserts.  They come with different sized compartments to suite all types of jewelry and will fit in any drawer. I love that these drawers are color coded...don't have enough jewelry to color code yet but a girl can dream!
