The porter's chair or hooded chair dates back to 18th century France. The style and shape of this chair lent itself to protection from the elements when the gatekeeper of an estate would sit at the front of the home and screen guests or visitors upon arrival. Today we've brought the hooded chair indoors and have updated it with bold fabrics and materials creating a blend of vintage and modern flair. The porter's chair brings a sense of royalty to anyone sitting in it and creates a dramatic statement in any space. It works as a bold accent chair in a sitting room or foyer and can create a romantic or intimate dining experience. What I love about the porter chair is that the possibilities are endless through the variation in materials. Here are some of my favorites!
