Hudson Furniture Inc. - Arc Dining Table

Hudson Furniture

I have been a fan of Hudson Furniture Inc. for many years not only for their designs but also for their green practices.  They only use wood from salvaged or wind and storm damaged trees giving them new life as art. Their pieces are a beautiful blend of chic urban style and natural free form lines. I have been obsessing over a dining table for my own home and stumbled upon this beauty. I cannot resist the mix of the glam gold base and natural finish of the wood of the Arc dining table. Loving the Lipstick end tables too!

The Parker Hotel Palm Springs

Parker Hotel

As a San Diego resident, the iconic desert city of Palm Springs is an easy weekend getaway. During our stay in Palm Springs we visited the Parker Hotel and were inspired and entertained by its funky yet chic design. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a staff of gentlemen dressed in white pants and bright salmon colored polo shirts. They opened the oversized orange doors and ushered us into the lobby. We were immediately impressed as we moved through the lobby, to the bar, then into the lounge. It was such an amazing space, we enjoyed observing all of the wonderful details of the design and decor. The Parker Hotel was designed in 2004 by ceramicist Jonathan Adler who is known for his "happy chic" style. The walls of this hotel may be white, but there is no lack of color here. Check out these great pictures...

A favorite of mine among the Solo boutiques is one stocked with scientific beakers, vintage furniture, interesting found objects and industrial lighting. Jennifer Price, an artist and designer, stocks her booth with items she finds at flea markets, junk yards and warehouses all over the world. Her boutique has a funky array of pieces that together create a distinctive style of industrial chic.

Metallic Book Covers from Coralie Bickford-Smith

Photobucket
I was and still am, obsessed with the Coralie Bickford-Smith Penguin Classics Clothbound Collection. I am almost done with collecting the Series 1 titles and then will move on to Series 2. Now, Coralie has debuted a new collection of F. Scott Fitzgerald classics complete with metallic book covers. I cannot resist beautiful books as they are admittedly one of my greatest weaknesses so, you can imagine my excitement to discover these beautiful metallic covers.  So gorgeous they could make stunning wallpaper...what do you think?

2010 Hampton Designer Showhouse

Photobucket

At this years Hampton Designer Showhouse a collaboration between Richard Abbot of Paris Ceramics, Christopher Peacock Home, Nathan Egan Interiors and Decorati produced an ultra mod tasting room complete with a touch of chic London style. This is the 10th year of the Hampton Designer Showhouse, a fundraising event for the Southampton Hospital.

The tasting room features black and white wall and floor patterns with a bold splash of blue in the wine cabinetry. Framed by the cabinetry is a custom made Union Jack created with one type of stone in three finishes: honed, polished and slightly distressed. The three finishes were carefully cut and assembled to create the distinctive British Flag. The results of the collaboration are bold and unique to say the least. Click here to read more!

Dreaming of Bali

Photobucket

In this months edition of Architectural Digest they are covering exotic homes all over the world. The article that caught my eye, Balinese Beat, is about a 12,000-square-foot compound in Bali, designed by architect Made Wijaya for entrepreneur and industrial designer from California, Bob Davids. The architecture, finishes, furniture and decor are inspired by Vietnamese, Japanese, Singapore, Moroccan, Indian, Javanese and of course Balinese culture. The compound consists of four bungalows which include the Javanese bungalow, Vietnamese Villa, Colonial bungalow and the Malay bungalow. Each bungalow is an eclectic mix of the places Wijaya and Davids have visited and are inspired by. Davids took a chance on this property, which was nothing more than an overgrown pleasure garden, citing what he had learned about risk and return. As a proclaimed workaholic, Davids now spends his time while in Bali commissioning local art for his in-progress residence in the Bahamas. I'd say the risk was definitely worth the return. Take a look at these amazing pictures!

Salt and Pepper

Just found these interesting salt and pepper shakers and thought I'd share. The Balloon Shakers were designed by Japanese architect and product designer Masayuk Kurokawa and are hand blown by the Shotoku Glass Co. who originally created light bulbs in Japan.

Antlers!

Photobucket

A current obsession of mine are antlers and since I'm not inclined to grab a rifle and go hunting, these faux animal heads and antler wall plaques will do the trick! Most are reminded of log cabins in the country when thinking of animals as wall decor but these, I dare say, are too sophisticated for such an environment. The deer and moose heads from Zgallerie's Fauxdermy line are great on their own but what I'm really loving are the Atelier Antler wall plaques from Ballard Designs. They look amazing when hung in a group and the more the merrier!
